Frank Wheeler

Global Head of Distribution and Marketing

Frank Wheeler is Global Head of Distribution and Marketing at Matthews International Capital Management, LLC. He has overall responsibility for the firm’s marketing, business development strategy, client services and sales efforts. Prior to joining Matthews in 2013, he served as Executive Vice President, Head of Product and Marketing with Nuveen Investments in Chicago. Previously, he was Head of Distribution for FAF Advisors/ First American Funds in Minneapolis. From 2000 to 2006, Frank held several senior roles at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers in both New York and in Tokyo, including Managing Director, Chief Marketing Officer for Asia Pacific. Earlier in his career, he held a variety of marketing and brand management roles at Morgan Stanley and Procter & Gamble. Frank earned an M.B.A. in Marketing and Finance from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and received a B.A. in Management Economics and French from Hampden-Sydney College.

Derek A. Chow

Head of U.S. Intermediary Distribution

Derek Chow is Head of U.S. Intermediary Distribution at Matthews International Capital Management, LLC. He is responsible for leading the firm’s U.S. business development strategy, client services and sales efforts. Prior to joining Matthews in 2014, he served as a Senior Vice President and Business Development Manager with Voya Investment Management (formerly ING Investment Management) in New York since 2011, where he was responsible for leading relationship management and national accounts with key broker/dealer partners. From 2007 to 2011, Derek was Head of U.S. Retail Distribution for FAF Advisors/ First American Funds in Minneapolis, where he led the firm's external and internal wholesaling efforts and national accounts. Earlier in his career, he held a variety of sales and management roles at Nuveen Investments, Fidelity Investments and Lincoln Financial Distributors. Derek earned a B.A. in Philosophy and Religion from Dartmouth College. Derek Chow is a registered representative of Foreside Funds Distributors LLC.

Céline L. Colgan

Head of U.S. Institutional Distribution

Céline Colgan is Head of U.S. Institutional Distribution at Matthews International Capital Management, LLC. She is responsible for leading the firm’s U.S. business development strategy, client services and sales efforts with U.S. institutions including endowments, foundations and public and corporate pensions. Prior to joining Matthews in 2014, she served as Chief Business Officer of The Presidio Group’s Outsourced Investment Office where she was responsible for business development, strategy, marketing communications and client services. Previously, she spent 15 years at Barclays Global Investors/BlackRock where she most recently was a Managing Director and team leader within the U.S. and Canada Institutional Client Group. Throughout her career at BlackRock, Céline was responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with large institutional investors and led a team of seasoned institutional sales and client service professionals. Céline earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in International Business and Finance from the Institut Supérieur de Gestion in Paris. Darryl C. Celkupa

Vice President, Business Development

Darryl Celkupa joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2013 and is responsible for business development efforts among independent advisors (RIAs) and family offices. Prior to joining Matthews, Darryl oversaw business development for Envestnet Tamarac, a leading provider of investment management software to the RIA community. Previously, he oversaw RIA strategy, business development and marketing at Russell Investments as well as custodial/professional association relations for the firm’s US$5 billion business segment. Darryl has also held similar roles working with RIAs at Prudential/Jennison Dryden, INVESCO Funds Group and Warburg Pincus Funds. Darryl earned an M.B.A in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and an A.B. in Sociology from Princeton University. Susan Grivas

Vice President, Relationship Manager

Susan Grivas joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2013 and is responsible for relationship management efforts among institutions, consultants, independent advisors (RIAs) and family offices. Prior to joining Matthews, Susan spent five years as an Emerging Markets Product Specialist at Victoria 1522 Investments. Previously, she was a Founding Partner with alternative investment specialist, Cambrian Strategies. Susan was Chief Operating Officer and acted as Emerging Asia product specialist with Newport Pacific Management from 1997 to 2002, and was Director of Institutional Sales, Marketing and Client Service at Spare, Kaplan Bischel & Associates from 1990 to 1997. Susan started her career in finance as Deputy State Controller for the State of California, and was a Trustee of CalPERS and CalSTRS, representing the State Controller. She earned a B.A. in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations from the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). Christian O. Halvorsen

Vice President, Relationship Manager

Christian Halvorsen joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2001 and is responsible for relationship management efforts among investment platforms and independent advisors (RIAs). Prior to joining Matthews, Christian was an Internal Wholesaler for Franklin Templeton Investments. Previously, he worked for Beijing Nokia Mobile Telecommunications Company in China. Christian received a B.A. in Communications and a minor in Chinese Studies from the University of California, San Diego. He is proficient in Mandarin. Sharon L. Hayman, CFA

Vice President, Relationship Manager

Sharon Hayman, CFA, joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2012 and is responsible for relationship management efforts among financial institutions, including private banks and mutual fund wrap platforms. Prior to joining Matthews, Sharon was Head of Financial Institutions Client Service at Delaware Investments in Philadelphia since 2006. She previously held a variety of roles at Delaware Investments from 1994 to 2000, beginning in the internal audit department and later in the fund product management area. From 2000 to 2006, she was with Gartmore Global Investments, where her product management experience included working with sub-advisory and offshore funds. Sharon earned an M.B.A. in Marketing and Finance from Drexel University and a B.A. in Management from Gettysburg College. Sharon Hayman is a registered representative of Foreside Funds Distributors LLC.

Jeremy Lehrer, CFA, CPWA, CAIA

Vice President, Business Development

Jeremy Lehrer joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2009 and is responsible for business development efforts among independent advisors (RIAs) and family offices. Prior to joining Matthews, Jeremy spent seven years at Charles Schwab, where he worked with Alternative Investments and Managed Accounts. From 1999 to 2002, he was a Research Director at AdvisorTech, where he consulted with Japanese, Korean and German financial advisors. Jeremy began his career analyzing Japanese small-cap stocks and emerging market debt. He received a B.A. in Political Science & Asian Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Masters of Pacific International Affairs in Investments and Japanese Studies from the University of California, San Diego. Jeremy has also spent time studying and working in Japan, and is proficient in Japanese. Jeremy Lehrer is a registered representative of Foreside Funds Distributors LLC.

Taryn O'Neill

Relationship Manager

Taryn O’Neill joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2010 is responsible for relationship management efforts among institutions, independent advisors (RIAs) and family offices. She was previously responsible for managing the distribution of Matthews’ product information and marketing materials to institutional clients and consultants. Prior to joining Matthews, Taryn was a Client Service Associate at Lehman Brothers Inc., providing client servicing to the firm’s Absolute Return Strategies investors. Previously, she was an Investor Relations Team Supervisor with BNY Alternative Investment Services. Taryn received a B.A. in American Studies from Hamilton College. Tiffany Shi

Client Services Associate

Tiffany Shi joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2014 and is responsible for supporting the distribution team efforts and working directly with a variety of clients and prospective clients. Prior to joining Matthews, Tiffany worked on the U.S. Institutional Advisory & Sales team with J.P Morgan Investment Management focusing on clients and prospects across both defined contribution and defined benefit segments. Prior to that, she was an investment research analyst on the Manager of Managers Research team of J.P. Morgan Private Bank in N.Y. covering Emerging Market and Asia managers, including Matthews Asia. Tiffany earned a B.A. in Economics and a B.S. in Supply Chain Management and Information Systems from Pennsylvania State University, Smeal College of Business. She is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and Shanghainese.

Angela Wang

Relationship Manager

Angela Wang joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2011 and is responsible for national account management for select broker dealers. After receiving an M.B.A in Finance from Columbia University in 2010, Angela served as an internal consultant with Gap Inc.’s Corporate Real Estate Analytics group, advising on the brands’ international store expansion strategy, particularly in China. From 2005 to 2008, Angela held various roles with Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, most recently as a Business Advisor to high net-worth individuals and corporate clients, in the wealth management and corporate finance capacities.  Angela received a B.A. in Mathematics from Grinnell College, and is fluent in Mandarin and proficient in Cantonese. Angela Wang is a registered representative of Foreside Funds Distributors LLC.

Sang Yoo

Relationship Manager

Sang Yoo joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2011 and is responsible for relationship management efforts with advisory teams within select broker dealer firms and other financial intermediaries. Prior to joining Matthews, Sang was an Account Manager at American Fidelity Assurance Company from 2009 to 2011. He began his career as a Financial Services Specialist with Independent Capital Management in Los Angeles in 2008 after graduating from Pepperdine University with a B.S. in International Business. Jonathan D. Schuman

Head of Global Business Development

Jonathan Schuman joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2010 as an Executive Vice President. He is responsible for leading the firm’s international business development strategy, developing relationships with key distribution partners and directing the firm’s global sales efforts. Prior to joining the firm, Jonathan was a Managing Director at PineBridge Investments (formerly AIG Investments) in Tokyo, responsible for institutional sales and client relations, product development, marketing and RFP functions for AIG’s third-party investment management business in Japan. He also served as Assistant General Counsel for Legal and Government Affairs for AIG Companies, Japan and Korea. Jonathan earned a J.D. from Harvard Law School, a M.A.L.D from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and a B.A. in Asian Studies from Williams College. He has served as Co-Chair of the Financial Services Committee at the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan, and is fluent in Japanese.

James E. Campion

Head of Asia Business Development

James Campion joined Matthews Asia in 2010 as a Senior Vice President. Based in Hong Kong, he leads the firm’s business development efforts in Asia. Most recently, James was Head of Asia Distribution for Threadneedle Portfolio Services in Hong Kong, responsible for setting up its Hong Kong office and developing the firm’s Asia distribution strategy. Prior to this, he served as Allianz Global Investor’s Head of Mutual Funds for the Asia Pacific region and was a Managing Director for New Star International. From 1998 to 2004, James also held several positions with Schroder Investment Management (Hong Kong) Limited, including Regional Head of Mutual Funds, Asia ex Japan.  

Neil Steedman

Head of U.K. Business Development

Neil Steedman is Head of U.K. Business Development at Matthews International Capital Management, LLC. He is responsible for leading the firm’s distribution and client service efforts in the U.K. and select European markets. Neil has extensive experience working with institutional and wholesale investors, including local authorities, discretionary wealth managers, family offices, private banks and global financial institutions, as well as leading platforms. Prior to joining Matthews in 2014, he was with Aberdeen Asset Management for 10 years, most recently as Head of U.K. Discretionary Sales. Neil earned a BSc in Pharmacology from the University of Aberdeen.

Kate Hitchings Ahalt

Vice President, Global Client Relationship Manager

Kate Hitchings Ahalt joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2011 as Global Client Relationship Manager. She manages relationships with Matthews’ clients in Europe and Latin America. Prior to joining Matthews, Kate was a Business Development Executive with AllianceBernstein in London, where she was responsible for business development opportunities and client management, primarily within the U.K. Institutional market. She began her tenure with AllianceBernstein in 2005, initially working with private clients, endowments and foundations out of its Boston-based wealth management office. Kate received a B.A. in English with a minor in Psychology from Dartmouth College, and is a proficient Spanish speaker. Kate Ahalt is a registered representative of Foreside Funds Distributors LLC.

Tina Tong

Vice President, Asia Business Development

Tina Tong joined Matthews Asia in 2013 as a Vice President responsible for supporting business development and client services efforts in Asia, focusing on private banks, insurers and financial advisers. Most recently, Tina was a Director of Business Development at Peak Capital, where she was responsible for introducing investment strategies from specialist investment managers to a variety of institutions and advisers. She received a Bachelor of Commerce from the Australian National University, and is fluent in Cantonese and Mandarin. Tina is based in Hong Kong and is a Registered Investment Representative of the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong.

Tony Novo

RFP and Client Reporting Manager

Tony Novo joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2014 and is responsible for leading the firm’s new business proposals, due diligence questionnaires as well as fulfilling client reporting obligations and maintaining our firm’s visibility in consultant databases globally. Most recently, Tony worked with Neuberger Berman in London for nearly four years, where he served as Head of RFP for its international operations. Prior to this, Tony served as Chief Operating Officer for Osmium Partners, a San Francisco-based U.S. equity hedge fund. He also worked in a variety of roles in San Francisco, New York and London, including two years in a business development role at Russell/Mellon, seven years at Morgan Stanley Asset Management in RFP and International and Emerging Market Operations and two years as a fund accountant at The Bank of New York. After serving five years in the U.S. Navy's cryptology division in the Far East, Tony earned a B.S. in Accounting from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. 

Joseph Ackland

Client Marketing Associate

Joseph Ackland joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2014 as a Client Marketing Associate and is responsible for supporting the distribution of Matthews’ product information and marketing materials to clients. Prior to joining Matthews, Joseph was an RFP Associate at Allianz Global Investors in San Francisco, where he was responsible for institutional separate account proposals and client service support. Joseph received a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Boston University. He is conversational in Mandarin.

Hedia Bozorghadad

Client Marketing Associate

Hedia Bozorghadad joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2011 as a Client Marketing Associate and is responsible for supporting the distribution of Matthews’ product information and marketing materials to clients. Prior to joining Matthews, Hedia was a RFP Associate at Fisher Investments. Previously, she was a Credit Manager with Wells Fargo Financial. Hedia received a B.A. in Business Administration with a concentration in Business Economics from Seattle University. Hedia is fluent in Farsi.

Mark Lidstone

Head of Global Marketing

Mark Lidstone joined Matthews International Capital Management, LLC in 2012 as a Senior Vice President responsible for the firm’s marketing activities, brand building efforts and shareholder services. Most recently, he worked with Aberdeen Asset Management in Toronto where he served as Head of Marketing for the firm’s Canadian operations. Prior to this, Mark headed Aberdeen’s marketing efforts out of Hong Kong in support of sales objectives across the institutional, retail and private bank distribution channels. He also spent over seven years at Credit Suisse Asset Management and held a variety of marketing and communications roles, leading teams out of both London and Hong Kong. Mark earned an M.B.A from Warwick Business School in the U.K and received a B.Sc. in Biology with Business Studies from the University of London.
